Renewable Energy For Kids

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
renewable energy for kids
Why does Bill Clinton link my ethanol subsidies to food riots?

"We have to become energy independent" but "we don't want to do it at the expense of food riots," the former President told an agriculture conference Thursday. He urged farmers to consider the needs of developing countries—the implication being that the diversion of corn to ethanol production limits food supplies and artificially raises prices.

No kidding. At the same gathering, Department of Agriculture chief economist Joseph Glauber did the math. Despite a forecasted 4% increase in corn planting, Mr. Glauber expects corn used for ethanol to hit a record five billion bushels in 2011-12, or more than one-third of total U.S. production, thanks to renewable fuel mandates and tax incentives. Corn prices recently hit two-and-a-half-year highs.

Liberals are politically retarded.

Green Energy Business Plan

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
green energy business plan

Renewable Energy Business - How to Build a Wind Generator

Why choose wind energy? Firstly it's free, secondly it won't run out and thirdly, it is available to 90% of the UK unless tall building or geographical features cause obstruction to the wind. Building a generator is relatively simple, choosing a reliable wind energy company can be useful, although it is entirely possible to construct by yourself. The cost is a lot less than many people think.

In order to successfully construct a wind energy device, there are few necessary pieces of equipment to obtain. one of which is a structure to mount the blade on, also, a tail assembly to keep it's attitude into the breeze, and a gearing to turn the action of the blade into energy capable of being stored. If you know what's needed the the construction is simple.

The majority of people contemplating a Do-It-Yourself project, a visit to a wind energy company can help you get an idea of what's involved and how the finished turbine may look. The company will be able to advise you on what kit to buy and it then should take no more than a few hours to assemble. A few considerations must be taken into account. Location of structure; the higher the better is one principal, however with the modern technology which has evolved within the renewable energy business, tall towers are not necessary as lighter, more efficient blades and generators are manufactured.

Another consideration is your neighbours. With restrictions on planning permission, but also basic manners, the size and type of your wind generator must be contemplated. The newer style wooden and fibre blades create reduced noise and vibration compared with older styles.

When deciding on where to locate your device, a popular and most frequently used option is the roof. If doing this as a DIY project, installation should create no problem. It is even possible to use recycled materials increasing the environmental interest such a project contains. One point to bear in mind are the location of trees and other tall structures.

Wind and breeze directions must be known for successful siting and functioning of a turbine. Wind maps are available from the internet, but they could also be provided by your local wind energy company or government office. For the serious DIY green energy enthusiast, investment of a wind meter is advisable, in order that over a few months all necessary relevant data is readily available.

The installation of the gearing and tailbox are straightforward, but for the wiring and connection of the motor to turn the energy into electric power an electrician to double check connections is advisable.

Finally consideration into type of battery and where to install it is necessary. In the majority of cases a small shed or covered area with a a concrete pad will be adequate. However, the efficiency and disposal of these batteries may be the only challenge encountered along the path of maintaining your status of a truly green constructor. Again, contacting your local wind energy company may be an option for you to gain adequate advice on these issues to help your plans become reality.

Green Energy Lamp

[simpleaffiliate source="chitika" results="0"][/simpleaffiliate]
green energy lamp
3 Way bulbs-Is it my lamp or my bulbs?

My light always seems to cut out three levels leaving me with one-not sure if high low or medium. It works for a little with three levels then only one. Is there a good three way bulb that doesn't do this or not? I have bought the long-lasting they don't seem any different. Is there a three way bulb that is "green" friendly or energy conservative in other words?

It's not the lamp. 3way bulbs are fragile things. They have 2 filaments rather than one, so you're either using one filament, the other filament or both. If a filament burns out, you're stuck with only one, which will be either low or medium.
Try to find a 3way bulb that's rated 130Volts as oppossed to 110 or 120. It will use less energy, put off slightly less light but will last a very long time.

NYC Green Buildings concept

There has been a great growth in awareness of the benefits of NYC green building among builders and home owners alike. Building green homes is no longer an isolated idea these days. Over disturbing facts about global warming and indoor air pollution, today, the top priority of home owners whom are aware of this problem, are looking for NYC green buildings. That silent protest alone generates increase of green building products and leads for architects to design New York City green buildings concepts.

NYC green buildings facts

Ecological concerns and the growing awareness of the advantages of NYC green buildings have steered to an increase in green homes demand in New York City and the rest of the US. Concerns about the impact their NYC apartments have on the environment have encouraged some homebuyers to opt for NYC green Buildings.

There is plenty of data around that point to that NYC green buildings are on the rise. Conferring to figures provided by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the number of green buildings in America has increased from 38 in 2002 to 669 now and rising. NYC Green buildings are increasingly entering the mainstream with more and more buildings getting New York City green buildings certification from USGBC.

NYC green building materials

NYC green buildings do not cost very much more than traditional NYC buildings, they actually reduce energy bills and so, the building of green homes is on the rise. NYC green buildings are not only less expensive to live in but also increase in real estate value.

Materials which are post recycled are more eco-friendly than others. There is more demand for products which can be recycled for NYC green homes. By recycling those materials, we cause less damage to the environment. This way we go green by using environment friendly products.

The material must have very negligible impact to the environment, especially in terms of the waste, emission, energy consumption and its capacity to replenish itself in order not to reduce the resources taken from nature due to its production. The energy consumption in NYC green buildings, especially in terms of Post-recycle consumer products are considered more green significant than pre-consumer products since they can be directed away from landfills.

Future of NYC green buildings

With rising government initiatives, consumer interest and the number of NYC green buildings developers and builders, NYC green building revolution is all set to go to a new level. What was once a makeshift of green buildings in several cities throughout the U.S. has now increased to encompass whole communities and neighborhoods in big cities like New York City. According to a survey made in 2006, about two-thirds of builders would be building eco-friendly New York City apartments this year. NYC Green buildings are firmly main stream. NYC Green building concepts begin to rise everywhere as the number of individuals who want to remodel, build or buy NYC green homes are rapidly increasing since architects and developers are responding to satisfy this growing demand. NYC Green buildings have been found to appreciate faster than traditional buildings.

NYC green buildings – conclusion

The conclusion, regarding NYC green buildings, is one. We should all start acknowledge info regarding eco-friendly real estate since its developing, and fast. There are some Real Estate Websites and companies whom already start to produce an answer to those needs. Look up for them for they will decorate our green future with NYC green buildings.

Science Projects On Green Energy

Make DIY Solar Panels to Cut Your Energy Costs

The long-term damage caused by green house gases is more apparent than ever before. Greenhouse gases rain a damaging viral strain on the earth's Eco system. Our earth has become diseased by these gases and we do not have a cure. Although the government is spending billions on alternative sources, we should not wait but take control and do our part to stop polluting the atmosphere. Individuals have spent their time and money to make solar panel guides that are affordable and even easy to build.

I said that panels are easy to build and that is true for those who can follow directions. Searching on line for the source of information you need is the best place to look. You will be working with diagrams and schematics so if your technical knowledge is not that great you can always get help from the experts.

You can purchase guides to show you exactly how and will not cost all that much. You will save a bundle on building your own. Look for a guide that has video as well as printed instructions. Kids have used some of these guides to build solar panels for science class. They are not that hard to follow.

Another choice to building your panels is to lease them. Just like any lease-to-buy contract when you miss payments they come for your source of energy! You save on the energy cost but pay a higher price to have the panels.

If you decide to buy a guide for your project make sure you get a guarantee to help you finish your project. The individual that has created the guild is usually will willing to get you through to the finish.

Buying pre-made panels is still very costly. Your panels alone cost from a low end $600 and on the high end $1500 per panel and that is if you buy a bulk rate buy. The cost of installing the panels and hooking it up is not included in the price. This is a problem for people who want to just save on cost and not wait for years to pay off the debt.

The word schematics scare some of you but no to worry the instructions should demonstrate everything and give you a phone number to call for help. The price for building your own panels averages around a low $27 per panel. This is worth the cost of the guide and the savings will be seen quickly on your energy bill. Look for an expert who can take you from step one to a working solar panel.

Take the plunge in the world of DIY green energy.  You'll be saving money and helping out the planet at the same time, talk about a win-win situation!  Get started today!

Green Energy Projects For School Students

How Green Schools Benefit Your Community

How Green Schools Benefit Your Community

These days, everywhere you turn someone is mentioning "going green."  From individual households to schools, green technologies and practices are being utilized all over the world.  Lately, schools in particular are putting a great deal of emphasis on using green building services to build sustainable learning institutions.  This can have benefits both for the school itself and the community in which it operates.

Many studies have been conducted to determine the effects of green schools on the quality of education a student receives.  Research shows a correlation between green schools and higher test scores, which is mostly attributed to more energy efficient and natural lighting in classrooms.  In addition, absenteeism on both the students and teachers part is reduced at green schools because they are healthier environments.  While all of this is wonderful news and a great endorsement for instituting green building services at your school, it's just as important to consider the effect green schools have on the community at large.

Green Building Service and Your Community

Often times, when a school district is considering embarking on projects to green their schools, this ends up being a collaborative project.  Designers, teachers, maintenance staff, parents, students and key community leaders are involved in the green design of the school.  Every neighborhood can benefit from working on projects as a team to build a stronger sense of community.

In addition to green school designs unifying the community, a community with green schools shows a commitment to developing the talent pool in the area.  Since green schools have proven to improve test scores, it's a great investment in the future of the community.  Not only that, green schools are a great way to draw attention to your community.

When people are house hunting, they often look for a house in community with a good school district.  Boasting high test scores, exceptional teacher retention and also the fact that your community has great awareness and concern for the environment, can be very attractive for prospective neighbors.

Lastly, green schools help mold your youngsters into environmentally conscious people.  The ideals set forth by green school districts instill empathy, patience and thoughtfulness in youngsters and teach them how to live their life with sustainable practices and ideals.

Now that you know all about the benefits green schools can have on your community, it's time to find the appropriate green building services for your project.

Free Solar Panels - Are They Really Free?

When you tell UK homeowners that they can have free solar panels on their roof it usually goes something like this –

Are the free solar panels really free?

Yes they're really free...sort of.

What does "sort of" mean?

Well, for the first 25 years you don't technically own the panels – but that's a good thing.

Why is not owning the panels a good thing?

Because the solar company has the responsibility of maintaining the system.

Why would the company do this?

Because the government pays them to.

 Where do I sign?

In April 2010 the government introduced the new Feed in Tariff scheme to encourage the uptake of domestic solar power in the UK. This incentive is paid for 25 years for all electricity produced whether it's used or not and there's also a bonus payment for unused electricity that's fed back into the grid, (when this is happening some people like to watch their meter go backwards.) It's these payments that enable the company to fit free solar panels as, over time, they'll recover their costs and make a profit.

So what does the homeowner get out of the free solar panels? Free electricity! And, if that's not enough, many enjoy a rise in property value as well. Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust said, "It seems Britons are willing to pay more for a home with a renewable energy source so investing in solar panels or a wind turbine could add to the resale value of a property and be as attractive to house hunters as a new kitchen or solid wood floors".

The amount of free electricity the homeowner can enjoy from their free solar panels depends on patterns of usage. We encourage our customers to use their appliances in sequence rather than at the same time. Using the dishwasher then the washing machine during daylight hours is the best way to save the most on bills. Those who are out all day can achieve this by the use of timers.

At the moment most companies are only installing free solar panels on roofs that fit certain criteria. Obviously the roof has to be large enough to accommodate the system and shading issues must also be considered but the two main considerations are pitch and aspect. A south-facing roof with a 30° pitch is perfect.

Of course the homeowners may not wish to opt for free solar panels and buy their system instead. In this case they'll benefit from the 25 year Feed in Tariff payments themselves. Every installation is different but, as an example, a home with a 4kW system on a south facing roof could expect to make around £900 per year clear profit in tariff payments and savings. And don't forget that property value increase.

One thing a homeowner taking up a free solar panels deal that those purchasing their systems don't is the knowledge that it's in the installing company's interest to be sure that all the equipment used is of the highest quality. They'll need the system to produce, to its highest potential, year on year or they won't make an eventual profit. This means the homeowner can rest assured that the free solar panels on the roof have been chosen for high production and long-term reliability.

So, in summary, it's well worth considering a free solar panels deal. And they really are free…..sort of.

What undergraduate course should you take if you want to work with and develop cutting edge technology?

Hello, I enjoy sciences very much and am a very creative and imaginative person who would like to work with nanotechnology and other cutting edge technologies. Among the things I'd like to work with are solar panels and vehicles (not nnecessarily cars) that take advantage of solar energy as well as other types of energies. I'd like to invent things like those shown on "future world" (discovery channel). I am keen on robots and artificial iintelligence too. And I like researching and experimenting a lot, so I don't picture myself always in an office. I am thinking of studying mechanical engineering, but I'm not completely sure.

I am a bright student and could in theory choose any university course and do well in it, however I have a profound passion for numbers and physics and I would like to "exploit" my huge imagination to create things that can help mankind overcome problems such as global warming.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer and enjoy it, but it is a broad field. To do reseach and development (more interesting), you have to specialize beyond that into Aerospace, Astronautics, etc.

Actually, the BIG thing right now is Systems Engineering. We've always had the development skills, but effectively harnessing them has always been an issue. The Japanese have a good handle on this. I'd say focus on this because this is where the revolutionary thinking of the future will come. Everybody has ideas, but putting the right ones into motion will drive the future.

The word "LASER" stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser is an optical light source that emits a concentrated beam of photons. Lasers are usually monochromatic – the light that shoots out is usually one wavelength and color, and is in a narrow beam.
By contrast, light from a regular incandescent light bulb covers the entire spectrum as well as scatters all over the room. (Which is good, because could you light up a room with a narrow beam of light?)
There are about a hundred different types of atoms in the entire universe, and they are always vibrating, moving, and rotating. Think of kids on sugar. When you add energy to these atoms (even more sugar to the kids), they really get excited and bounce all over the place.
When the atoms relax back down to their "normal" state, they emit a photon (a light particle). Think of the kids as coming down from their sugar high, and they all collapse on the couch.
A laser controls the way energized atoms release photons. Imagine giving half the kids sugar, and picture how they would bounce all over the place (like light from a bulb)when it took effect. They would be very high-energy among the other half who were contently sitting down.
Now imagine those sugar kids jumping in unison (a focused laser beam). The sugar-kids are infectious, and pretty soon, the kids around them are joining in and sharing in their excited energy. This is how a laser charges the atoms inside the gas medium.
Now imagine a cat-flap that lets out a limited number of kids out at a time, while the rest are bouncing around inside, charging up everyone. That cat-flap exit is the laser beam exiting the laser. The atoms remaining inside the laser bounce off mirrors as they charge each other up.
Before we start, you'll need eye protection – tinted UV ski goggles are great to use, as are large-framed sunglasses, but understand that these methods of eye protection will not protect your eyes from a direct beam. They are intended as a general safety precaution against laser beam scatter and spinning mirrors. (Yes, you will be wearing sunglasses in the dark!)
A very neat addition to the experiments below is a fog machine. (Rent one from your local party supply store.) Turn it on, be sure you have good ventilation, darken the lights, and turn on the lasers for an outstanding laser experience!
A quick note about lasers: keychain lasers from the dollar store work just fine with these projects. Do not use the green lasers sold in astronomy stores – they are too dangerous for the eyes.
Plastic Bottle Beam Fill up a plastic water or clean soda bottle with water and add a sprinkle of cornstarch. Turn down the lights and turn up the laser, aiming the beam through the bottle. Do you see the original beam in the bottle? Can you find the reflection beam and the pass-through beam?
Light Bulb Laser In the dark, aim your laser at a frosted incandescent light bulb. The bulb will glow and have several internal reflections! What other types of light bulbs work well?
CDs Shine your beam over the surface of an old CD or DVD. Does it work better with a scratched or smoother surface? You should see between 5-13 reflections off the surface of the CD, depending on where you shine it and how good your "seeing" conditions are.
Glass and Crystal Pass the laser beam through several cut-crystal objects such as wine glasses or clear glass vases. Is there a difference between clear plastic or glass, smooth or multi-faceted? Try an ice cube, both frosted and wet.
Microscope Slides Shine the laser beam through a flat piece of glass, such as a microscope slide or single-paned window. Can you find the pass-through beam as well as a reflected beam?
If you have it, fill a clear tank with water, add a sprinkling of cornstarch, and put the slide underwater. Shine the laser through the side wall through the slide and both beams will be visible.
Lenses If you have an old pair of eyeglasses, pop out the lenses and try one or both in the beam to see the various effects. Try one lens, and then try two in line with each other to see if you can change the beam.
Filters Paint a piece of cellophane or stiff clear plastic with nail polish (or use colored filers) to put in the laser beam. You can make a quick diffraction grating by using a feather in the beam.
If you have polarizer filters, use two. You can substitute two sunglass lenses – no need to pop out the lenses – you can just use two pairs of sunglasses. Just make sure they are polarized lenses (most UV sunglasses are). Place both lenses in the beam and rotate one 90 degrees. The lenses should block the light completely in one configuration and allow it to pass-through the other way.
Laser Maze Hot glue one 1" mosaic mirror (found at most craft stores) to each wooden cube. In a pinch, you can use aluminum foil or Mylar. Add a fog source, such as a fog machine, dry ice, or clap two (very chalky) chalkboard erasers together – just be sure to have proper ventilation, as you will also need the room to be very dark. Turn on the laser adjust the cubes to aim the beam onto the next mirror.

I have a question about the immigration and the interview.?

I sent in the I-751 (Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence).

My husband has a 2 year green card that is going to expire at the end of March of 2009. He entered America legally.

The proofs that I sent in was

1. bank statement with both our names on it
2. consumers energy bill with both our names on it
3. pictures
4. birth certificates of our 2 kids.

What are the chances that we are actually going to have to go to the interview?

Ignore Mamour's answer. Apparently she feels the need to be rude. If she doesn't like a question, she can choose not to answer it instead of whining.

Whether or not you will need to supply more evidence of a valid marriage will be determined in part by the content of what you have already sent in.

Define Green Energy

Green Building Movement

Although the history of environmentally responsive design is centuries old, the term "green building" (also called "sustainable design building" or "high-performance building") is relatively new. The goal is to design buildings that meet performance objectives for land use, transportation, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and other factors. Statements describing green objectives vary.

The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, for example, defines green building as "the practice of (1) increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and (2) reducing building impacts on human health and the environment, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal the complete building life cycle".

An Urban Land Institute publication defines "sustainable" as designing projects and buildings in ways that: " Conserve energy and natural resources and protect air and water quality by minimizing the consumption of land, the use of other nonrenewable resources, and the production of waste, toxic emissions, and pollution; " Make cost-effective use of existing and renewable resources such as infrastructure systems, underused sites, and historic neighbor-hoods and structures; " Contribute to community identity, livability, social interaction, and sense of place; " Widen access to jobs, affordable housing, transportation choices, and recreational facilities; " Expand diversity, synergism, and use of renewable resources in the operation and output of the local economy.

To enable building owners and design teams to evaluate the energy and environmental performance of their buildings, a voluntary system for rating green buildings has been developed for new construction by an expert-intensive process of the U.S. Green Building Council (USG BC). The USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system awards credits for designing to advance sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and materials selection. Buildings are rated as "certified," "silver," "gold," or "platinum," depending on the total number of credits received. To receive LEED certification a building must first comply with the most up-to-date national standards. Credits can also be earned for innovative designs. The first version of LEED was issued in 1998 and has since been revised several times (the most recent version is LEED 2.2).

The revisions have involved hundreds of environmental professionals and industries engaged in defining energy and environmental sustainability for a range of building types, for commercial interiors (LEED-CI), for existing buildings (LEED-EB), for commercial construction and major renovation projects (LEED-NC), and for neighborhood development (LEED-ND). Learning things is not limited to the scentific area. Instead it also has relations with some other things like speaking a language or using software, including Rosetta Stone English and Rosetta Stone French. If you have a creative mind, you will make all your own differences in the end!

I have a green idea, it's the future and will revolutionise carbon emissions, My idea is hot and it works?

It's a fact that most of a houses heating energy is lost through the windows, forget double, triple or quadruple glazing, Brick up your windows!, I know what you are thinking, what about the view? well thats dead easy, attach a plasma TV the same size as your old window to you new wall where your window was, place a camera on the outside to show you whats there, I am so excited about this I have pateneted the application and send outlines of my proposal to Al Gore and Ann Robinson, as an added feature, if you have a realy cr*p view you can replace it with an image of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or something, I want to know just how good that you think I am, please post praise below
Loss of light is not an issue, I shall use a bulb - no more harmful uv rays to fade your real leather suite and tropical hardwood floor

I think you could be onto a winner there! What a fantastic original idea - I may just brick mine uo first thing tomorrow - no why wait, I'll do it now!! :P
