Precautions to take for imminent solar storm? (Monday 20th by Greenwich midnight)?
So I heard from Solar weather forecasts that there is a huge solar storm headed towards Earth, imminent by Monday the 20th of December 2010, that has the capability of frying the electrical grid [And of course cause beautiful & powerful northern/southern auroral lights :]
But any who... is there any precautions one could and/or should take? Or maybe it doesn't even matter...
Like maybe disconnecting all power consuming appliances, backing up all computer software, and shutting down all hardware... ( or maybe even that does not make a difference...?)
It's amazing how incredibly complacent we are to the majesty of our home-star...

Note the predicted time. Either storms regularly arrive on Mondays at 7.32 am. or someone's got their dates mixed up.
So - no widespread disruption on the planet, no power or satellite shutdowns. I bet you never even noticed it.
Take this sort of reporting with a pinch of salt in future. Reporters love to make a big deal about supposed threats from space.
