GREEN ENERGY – the fuel of the future

Green energy is any form of energy which can be used as fuel which is cheap, abundant, and which will not destroy the environment because it does not emit harmful gases in the atmosphere which wreak havoc to the earth's atmosphere.

It is sustainable and renewable. Sustainable, because it can be used as a primary source of energy for a very long time without affecting the needs of generations to come, renewable since the source of energy is abundant, and therefore could be used with the least expense on the part of the end user.

The following are considered as green energy:

- Solar power – The sun is a very potent source of energy. The rays of the sun once collected by solar panels of industrial magnitude can light up a whole city. Solar panels basically collect and gather the rays of the sun and convert it into electricity. Once the rays of the sun touches the photovoltaic cells which are delicately arranged in arrays inside the panel, the light is transformed into electric current which is transported via mini wires connected in the cells and are delivered to the photovoltaic (PV) grid. The grid then transports the current into a battery cell which is charged and which is later used to operate electric appliances and gadgets.

- Wind power – the wind is likewise a very powerful source of energy, especially if the turbines are located on top of mountains or on seafronts where wind velocity can travel to as much as 60 to 70 miles per hour. A 1.5 MW wind turbine can have rotors which extend up to 80 meters in length.

- Hydroelectric power is another form of green energy which uses the forceful current of rivers and streams to generate electricity. Under the hydroelectric power, turbines are also used. The strong current rushing down rivers are perfect for turning the turbine which then produces the electric current as it rotates. The stronger the current the more electricity is generated since the turbines rotate faster.

- Geothermal power on the other hand, uses the steam that rises above the surface of the earth in areas near active volcanoes. These rising potent steam are also used to rotate turbines which in turn produces energy to light up whole cities and towns.

These are but some of nature's sources of green energy. Mankind's only alternative to a safer, cleaner, and happier future.
