what are the benefits of using solar photovoltaic cells?
Very low greenhouse gas emissions.
Very low air pollution emissions (air pollution kills tens of thousands of Americans).
Doesn't need fuel - so you don't have to buy oil or gas from foreign countries, or dig up your own natural areas.
Silent in operation and low maintenance - so when prices fall people will be able to easily and unobtrusivally stick them on their houses.
One of the most 'intense' forms of renewable energy; a square mile of solar panels generates more electricity than a square mile of wind farm.
Plenty of space for them on roofs etc so we can generate lots of power without using up more land (except for the land used to mine materials to make them and the factories, but this is small compared with coal mining!)
