Industrial Solar Panels

When did government programs not become cost-effective?

I always hear everyone talk about how much this would cost or how much that would cost (especially when it comes to alternative energy.) I'm all for switching to renewable energy and enforcing new building codes to retrofit buildings with solar panels, skylights, and septic tanks. I'm all for large commercial and industrial buildings installing skylights and wind turbines. I'm all for a universal health care plan and rebuilding the infrastructure of our oil-based economy. I'm all for a subsidized higher education system, too. When I tell people this they always say it's going to cost money. Does anyone realize they would only cost a fraction of what this war has cost us? Why don't I see anybody lamenting about this pointless war that will never be won? Does anybody realize that this war is what's put us in such a huge economic recession?

The track record of government efficiency is horrible. I am sure you have heard the stories of $25.00 screws etc. I believe the government has earned the reputation of being an inefficient bureaucracy.

The war did not contribute to the recession. The cause of the current recession is related to sub-prime lending. Specifically with Fannie Mae back in the late 1990's when we tried to manipulate free markets for social welfare - i.e. foolishly loaning money to people who did not have good credit.
