Palstic film on my solar panel?
I've just got a solar panel in the post and it's got a thin, transparent plastic film covering the whole thing.
Does anyone know if this is necessary or is it purely to avoid scratching during transit?
That is, am I meant to peel it off?
Solar cells are manufactured with a clear protective barrier to help them last longer in harsh elements. This barrier is laminated on to the product and is difficult to remove without destroying the cell.
However, if your solar cells have an easily removed sheet of plastic that is clearly meant to protect it from scratching while in transit (like many electronic components do nowadays), do make sure you take it off when you build and install your panels so it does not interfere with your cell's power absorption ability.
