How do you convert solar energy to electricity?

- Solar thermal is a mult-step process in which sunlight is converted to heat which is converted to mechanical energy (drive a turbine or heat engine) which is converted to electricity (by driving a generator)
- Solar chemical is a multi-step process in which solar energy is used to drive a chemical reaction to create fuel that is later burned in a conventional internal or external combustion engine. However, this method actually relies on heat from concentrated sunlight to drive the process so it could be considered another type of solar thermal.
- Photoelectrochemical is analogous to a battery that gets its charge from sunlight.
